Vending at a Street Fair

This weekend, I attempted my first ever street fair, and I am happy to say it was a surprising success! I confess, I underestimated the literary interest of the audience to which I was selling, which made what was essentially a single-day event (the three hours Friday evening were largely rained out) somewhat profitable. But, in addition to the reading public, I attribute this success to the lessons learned and applied from my previous events, namely:Continue reading “Vending at a Street Fair”

Plans for June

May was every bit the full month I had predicted. Not only was progress made on several manuscripts, but I took an actual week’s vacation and attended Belton, Missouri’s first annual Carry A. Nation Days event (where I will still be until 8:00 tonight!).

June will probably be a quieter month by comparison, but preparations will be made for future movements. Knights of Aralia will be my primary focus henceforth, though I hope soon to be in a position to pick up on the old Sauragia series, make some serious revisions to an old project, and perhaps even branch into some new territory with my nonfiction projects! I am optimistic at the moment either way.

Happy Memorial Day!

Under current conditions, you may or may not be doing anything to mark this day as the “official” start of the summer season. But regardless, let us take a moment today to remember those who have given their all to defend this country and her principles, both at home and abroad. God bless, and have a wonderful Memorial Day.

Also, as a reminder, I will be attending the annual Carry Nation Days in Belton this coming weekend: Friday, May 31st and Saturday, June 1st. So, if you happen to be in the vicinity, feel free to stop by Booth #10 (Bluedrake Books) on Main St.!

Carry Nation Days

Just a reminder that I will be vending at Carry Nation Days on Main St. in Belton, MO on Friday, May 31st and Saturday, June 1st. I will be in booth #10, so come and say hello if you happen to be in the area!

Plans for May

April was a month of constant action. Though it was never as focused nor as organized as I had hoped, progress was made on several drafts at various stages of production.

May is set up to be a fairly spectacular month. With a bit more organization thrown into the mix, I will be able to make significant progress on the Knights of Aralia saga, a few translations, and perhaps a couple of other projects besides. I would also like to make a nice big batch of submissions to smaller publication outlets by the end of the month, when I will be making an appearance at a small outdoor festival in Belton, MO. If anyone happens to be in the Kansas City area at that time, then I hope to see you there!

Wolves of the Beyond 11 Years Later

As a teen, I absolutely loved Kathryn Lasky’s books. Whatever she wrote, I would read it, especially when it came to books related to the world she created in Guardians of Ga’Hoole. Therefore, when I had finally finished reading those books, it was only natural that I should move on to what was then her ongoing Wolves of the Beyond series. I remember getting the first two and devouring them within a week or so, then eagerly awaiting each successive book as it came out in the following couple years.

I recently revisited this old classic in audiobook form to see if it has held up or not. Such is the topic of this week’s post. I will try not to give too much away, but I make no guarantees.Continue reading “Wolves of the Beyond 11 Years Later”

Marketing Matters: Merchandising

Some time ago, I made a post about promotional materials, and how they could help sell your book. But what if there are other ways you could sell your book–or even other products you could sell that somehow relate back to your work in some other way? I believe there are several interesting possibilities out there, and I’m going to go over a few right now.Continue reading “Marketing Matters: Merchandising”

Plans for April

March was a busy month. Between getting ready for my debut appearance at TFF, attending said event, and dealing with the aftermath, I managed to get a goodly number of other things done that put me in a decent position to start April. It could have been a much better position had other things been accomplished as well, but that is neither here nor there.

For this month, my main priority will be production. I will be focusing most of my energy on either revising old material to get it ready for potential publication or else working on new material entirely. Among these projects will be the continuation of my two book series, as well as a secondary project I’ve been toying with for a while now. If time permits, I will even resume work on my long-neglected translations as well! By early May, I will also have a firm plan of what other live appearances I will be making later this year, so stay tuned for that!

TFF 2024: A Retrospective

It is one week since I returned from Texas Furry Fiesta, an anthro animal-themed convention hosted annually in Dallas by Creature Arts, which was my second ever live appearance as an author/bookseller. Having had time to reflect on this whirlwind expedition, I have come to a few conclusions, which I will share in this week’s post.Continue reading “TFF 2024: A Retrospective”
