The Process of Self-Editing (Updated!)

Editing and revising can be the most tedious or the most exciting part of the writing process. On the one hand, you’ve completed your rough draft (a stage many never make it to) and are well on the way to finishing up. On the other hand, going over the same material again and again can be time-consuming and mind-numbingly dull. But in the end, however many professional editors you hire, you’ve ultimately got to take a good long look at your own work before you decide whether it’s ready to see the light of day or not.Continue reading “The Process of Self-Editing (Updated!)”

Plans for April

March turned out to be a very productive month, both personally and professionally. The latter included progress on a couple of projects (if not as much as I would have liked), reaching 50 outstanding submissions (which I’ve not managed in years!), and of course, attending the local Luck & Laughter vending event right here in Kansas City.

With so many things out of the way, April should be a fairly straightforward month. The only complication will stem from the fact that I shall once again be travelling to Dallas, TX to attend Texas Furry Fiesta 2025! Will I be vending? Probably at least one day. Like last year, I was unfortunately not chosen for a set spot for the weekend, and will therefore have to enter the daily lottery for the Artist Alley (for which I am much better prepared this time!). This will be interesting, as it will be the first time I have ever come back to vend in a place I have vended in before. So, the first half of the month will doubtless be consumed largely with that and the preparations leading up to it.

Otherwise, I hope to make some serious progress on the projects I worked on throughout March, and perhaps get another article written as well? I’m not sure, but either way, April will be a much more tumultuous month than March as I prepare for my vending season to begin in earnest.

The Importance of Feedback

I have mentioned in several previous posts how important it is to get others to look at your work before submitting or publishing. Today, I’d just like to underline that fact, and discuss once more why it is so critical to achieve a superior product.Continue reading “The Importance of Feedback”

Luck & Laughter?

This past Saturday (March 15th), I attended the first Luck & Laughter shopping event at the Sonesta Select Hotel in Kansas City, Missouri on behalf of Bluedrake Books. And to put it plainly…it was a bit of a dud. Why and how this happened I shall try to dissect below.Continue reading “Luck & Laughter?”

The Importance of Lists

To paraphrase an old Go-Gos song, “I am a boy of a hundred lists.” I’ve got them for just about everything, whether written on a notepad or just filed away in my head. Lists can be your best friend or your worst enemy, depending on how and whether you organize them, but there’s no question that when it comes to writing full time, you’ve got to have them.Continue reading “The Importance of Lists”

Event: Luck & Laughter

Howdy all! Just a quick reminder that I will have a booth at the Luck and Laughter vendor fair and raffle this Saturday, March 15th at the Sonesta Select Hotel in Kansas City, MO! Admission is free to the public, so stop on by and browse some books and other fine wares (I tend to offer special discounts at live events). For more details, see the event’s Facebook page here. Hope to see you there!

Plans for March

February has been a much better month than January. After finishing up at Anthro Expo, I did my best to reestablish a routine. While not entirely successful, I nevertheless managed to make progress on a number of projects, particularly the ongoing Knights of Aralia saga.

This month should see even more stability (hopefully). Project goals remain the same: Knights of Aralia at the top, with my continued revamp of an old manuscript next, and continuation of the Sauragia 3 rough draft last, with various translation projects in between. I will also be behind the Bluedrake Books booth at a local event on March 15th called Luck and Laughter. I hope to see some of you there. In the meantime, feel free to take a look at the event page here!

First Foray of the Year: Anthro Expo 2025

Hello again, everyone, and welcome to my first real post of 2025! Today I’ll be reviewing yet another experience as a vendor, this time at Norman, Oklahoma’s own furry convention: Anthro Expo.Continue reading “First Foray of the Year: Anthro Expo 2025”

Plans for February

January was an absolute bust of a month. Between various misunderstandings, rough weather, and a couple of very unfortunate family situations, this was not at all the start to 2025 I had hoped or planned for. Despite this, I did manage to get a couple of necessary edits done, and made the journey to Norman, OK for my first day of vending AnthroExpo 2025.

I sincerely hope that February may be all that January was not. My entire focus in writing will be on a single manuscript for the first time in ages, which is an exciting prospect in of itself. I may also begin some research that I neglected to do in January due to the aforementioned circumstances, and continue work on a long-neglected rough draft if at all possible. And of course, for those who are here and happen to be reading this (what are the odds?), I will again be located at Table J in the AnEx Artist Alley today and tomorrow, so feel free to stop on by!
